### Many Ways to Solve

In math, we have been spending a great deal of time proving our work. Sometimes we do it by using the inverse operation, drawing pictures, estimating and even making simpler problems to solve. Come up with a problem you can solve in three different ways and add it as this week's blog post.

1. (kx3)+2=5 K=1 Sam has 3 equal groups of (k) balls. Then he adds two more balls. He has 5 balls. How many balls are in 1 group.
1_ (5-2):3=1
2_ 1x3=3+2=5
3_ x x x +x x=xxxxx Christian

2. Bobs yard is 10 yards long and 29 yards wide. What is the area of Bobs yard.

10x29=290
(10x20)+(10x9)=290
(10x30)-(10x1)=290
Anna

1720
40(40+3)=1720
(40x3)+(40+3)=1720

4. Jenna will buy a pool. She wants it to be 20 yards wide and 35 yards long. What will the area of the pool be?

1. 20 x 35 = 700 yards
2. 20 x 35 = 20 (30 + 5) = 700 yards
3. 20 x 35 = (20 x 40) - (20 x 5) = 700 yards

Vela

5. Vela's pool is 25 yards long and 15 yards wide. What is the area of Vela's yard?

25x15=425
(25x10)+(25x5)=425
(25x30)-(25x50)=425

6. Christian cut 20 trees per day for 2 days and he cut 30 trees per day for the next 2 days
1) 20+20+30+30=100
2) 2x20 + 2x30 =100
3) you can find the average tree cut per day and multiplied by 4 days
20+30=50
50 : 2 = 25x4=100

7. Ava has a garden it is 18 feet long and 14 feet wide what is the area of the garden?
18x14=252 feet
10x8+4x10=252 feet
14x10+14x8=252 feet

8. 2(2+5)=x
(2+5).2=x
(2.5)+(2.2)=x
X=20

9. Carly has a pool that is 34 feet wide and 20 feet tall. What is the area of the pool?

1. 20 x 34= 680
2. 20(30+4)=680
3. (20x40) - (20x6)=680

10. 13 x 101 = 13 x(100+1) =(13x100)+(13x1)=1300 + 13=1313

101x13=101x(10+3)=(101 x 10)+(101 x 3)= 1010 + 303= 1313

101
x13
1,313

11. Paris had 40 rocks and 53 pebbles,she wants to multiply 40x53 how can she solve it?

1.40x53=2,120
2.(40x50)+(40x3)=2,120
3.(40x20)+(40x3)+(40x30)=2,120

12. Saad has 50 toys 49 batteries. He wants to find out how many possessions he has. He wants 3 ways.

50•49=2450
(50•40)+(50•9)=2450
(50•50)-(50•1)=2450

13. Wesley has a desk that is 49 inches wide and 60 inches length. What is the area.

1. 60X49=2940
2. 60X(40X9)=2940
3. (60X40)+(60X9)=2940

14. Megan has a book that is 65 centimeters long and 89 cm wide. What is the area?
80x60=4800
80x5=400
60x9=540
5x9=45
=5785 cm

15. DJ has 37 photos. Bibby has 40 times as many photos. how many photos does Bibby have?

37.40=1480 photos
40(30+4)=1480 photos
34(10+30)=1480 photos
(40.30)+(40.7)=1480 photos
