Many Ways to Solve

In math, we have been spending a great deal of time proving our work. Sometimes we do it by using the inverse operation, drawing pictures, estimating and even making simpler problems to solve. Come up with a problem you can solve in three different ways and add it as this week's blog post.

  4. Jenna will buy a pool. She wants it to be 20 yards wide and 35 yards long. What will the area of the pool be?

    Answer:
    1. 20 x 35 = 700 yards
    2. 20 x 35 = 20 (30 + 5) = 700 yards

  6. Christian cut 20 trees per day for 2 days and he cut 30 trees per day for the next 2 days
    1) 20+20+30+30=100
    2) 2x20 + 2x30 =100
    3) you can find the average tree cut per day and multiplied by 4 days
    20+30=50
    50 : 2 = 25x4=100
