### Math Challenge

This is the first time we are trying to use the blog as a place to post work.  Let's see who accepts my challenge.  Over the past two weeks, we have been multiplying decimals with hidden questions, extra information and multiple steps.  Do you think you can write one of your own?  Write your word problem in the comment box below.  Make sure you put your first name at the end.

1. Bob owned a pie store in Wisconsin. Jason bought 4 apple pies and 5 blueberry pies. One apple pie is \$10.25 and one blueberry pie is \$12.09. How much did Jason pay in all. Bryan

2. Ryan wants to make a bowling alley in Chicago, Illinois. It is 3000 square feet. It costs 500 dollars to rent per day. He could also buy it for 700,000 for ever. Each lane costs 637 dollars and 53 cents. How much will it cost him to buy bowling alley's and the place? Underline the extra information. Write the missing information. Then, solve the problem by providing your own information. Anshul

3. Amy owns a candy store. Jade wants to buy 5 bags of king size M&Ms and 6 king size twix bars. A king size bag of M&Ms costs .75 cents. Carrie wants to buy 7 king size bags of M&Ms. How much money will Jade pay? How much money will Carrie pay? What is the missing information? Solve if you can. Anika

4. Jack has a collection of 74 marbles. His friend Tommy has 3 times as many marbles as Jack. How many marbles does Tommy have. DJ

5. julia went shopping with me yesterday. we each had 40.00 dollars to spend. julia spent 12.99 on jeans, 10.00 on a shirt and 10.67 on a pair of slippers. I bought 3 of the same pairs of jeans as julia did. how much do the two of us have left to spend altogether. -Megan

6. Jessica moved into a new apartment. Jessica`s new room is shaped like a rectangle. The length is 12.32 ft, and the width is 14.81. Her bed is 3 meters long and 2 meters wide. What is the area of Jessica`s room? - Jolie

7. Jack and Robert were having a competition of who was smarter. So they multiplied 0.7 by 0.4 to see who gets it right. Jack got a product of 2.8. Robert got product of 0.28. Who got the right product? - Sudeep

8. Lex went to a cupcake store in Boston. She brought \$25.00 to the cupcake shop. Mini cupcakes cost \$1.00 each jumbo cupcakes cost \$2.00 each and regular sized cupcakes costs \$1.50 each. If Lex buys 2 jumbo cupcakes 7 mini cupcakes and 4 regular cupcakes will Lex be able to afford all of it? If not how much more money does she need to be able to afford all of the cupcakes? How much change will she receive if she has more money than the cupcakes cost? - Lex

9. Angie is leaving for a new job in six weeks. In the mean time, she is getting paid \$6.75 an hour. She works five hours a day five days a week. In her last six weeks of her job, how much will she earn in total? - Alison

10. Emma wants to bake a cake for her moms birthday. She brings \$45.00 to the store.
The ingredients and cost are listed. Flour:\$4.00 per lb, eggs:\$3.00 a dozen, sugar:\$5.00 per lb, baking soda & baking powder:2.50, butter:\$6.00 for 12 sticks, vanilla extract:\$4.50 per 5 ml. She buys, 2 lbs flour,1 dozen eggs, 3 lbs sugar, 2 boxes of baking soda & baking powder,10 ml of vanilla extract. Will she have enough money,if so how much more money will she need? 11. Anshul has a farm that is 3 achres in size. He is also going to borrow his neghbor's yard for \$300. If he can only use .7 of his yard, how many achres does he have for the event? Write the missing information and hidden question then slove the problem using your own info. JAMES

12. Alexis has \$2.50. The bike she wants to afford is \$99.50. Alexis has a job that pays her \$5.00 per hour, but she needs to afford food, which is \$10.00 per day. Alexis works 4 days a week for 5 hours. How many weeks will Alexis have to work and save to get to at least \$99.50, maybe with a little more money left over? What are the hidden questions? - Angela
