### Let's Try some Algebra

Algebra seems to be a mystery.  Everyone seems to ask, "Where did those letters come from?  I thought we were doing math!"

In order to master what algebra is, I try to include a free exploration of a math website that offers a plethora of algebra topics to explore.  Go to the following site and

1. Choose one topic from the Algebra heading
3. Tell us what you learned
4. Give us an example

1. DISTRIBUTIBE PROPERTY
What i learned about the distributive property is that you can use it for all orperations.
For example, you could do 8(5+4) or 5(17-8)

1. TOP ONE IS BY JAMES

2. My topic is Order Of Operations. I learned that you always have to use the technique PEMDAS. What I mean by that is: It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication or Division, Addition or Subtraction. Whenever your doing a problem with parentheses or an exponent you always have to do it this way. Remember to do it in the order PEMDAS. That is what I learned doing the Order Of Operations. Here Are Some Examples:
Anshul

3. Properties review
I learned that you have to use subtraction to solve a multiplication or division equivalent problem in algebra.
Example:
24 x 32 = (24 x 25) + 24 x _ (you would have to find 32 - 25)
- Alison

4. Equations with Variables:
I learned that variables can be confusing because they are letters but, the letter is basically blank or box.
Example: 4+n=10 which is the same as 4+_=10
-Anika

5. Identity property of 0 : I know that any number times 0 will = 0. Example: 76x0=0

John

6. Commutative Properties of Addition and Multiplication
I learned that in order to do the commutative property, you have to basically switch around the placement of the numbers. Meaning that even with parentheses, just switch it around!
Example: (23x42)x9=(42x9)x23

7. 8. Order of Operations:
I learned that you have to do PEMDAS. It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. Do it in that order or your answer may be wrong. Here are some examples:
Bryan

9. Identity Properties and Multiplication by Zero:

I learned that when you multiply a number by one it will always be the number it is being multiplied. Also I learned that when you multiply a number by zero it will always be zero no matter what.

Examples:
54x1=54
64x0=0
- Sudeep

10. Order of operations:
I learned what PEMDAS is.That is P for parenthesis, E for exponents, M for multiplication, D for division, A for addition, and S for subtraction. It has to be done in order or the answer will be incorrect.
-Supraja G.

11. Forgot example. Examples:
2x(12- 27/3)+7=13

12. Identity Properties and Multiplication by Zero:
I learned that when you multiply numbers and then it is x 0 that it will always be zero.

Example:
8739 x 6382 x 0= 0 -Shannon

13. Equations with variables
I learned that variables can be any letter in the alphabet but they cannot be a symbol . N x 6 = 12 N = 2 Duncan

14. I used equations with variables. I learned if it tells the answer and the first number you can guess the variables. 17+x=20 x= 3.

15. The topic that I used is Expressions using parentheses. I leaned that if there is ever a set of parenttheses you always do that problem first before the others because if not you will get the wrong answer. Example: (7x2) + 11 - 8 =17 - Lex

16. Equations with variables
When there are variables you usually try to figure out what it stands for. Example: 5g=35 DJ

17. I used Expressions using Parentheses
For example....
(8x4) + (5x6)
8x4=32 5x6=30 30+32=62 this is from EMMA

18. Expressions using parentheses. I leaned that if there is ever a set of parenttheses you always do that problem first before the others because if not you will get the wrong answer. Example: (7x2) + 11 - 8 =17 - Lex

19. I used equations with variables. I learned if it tells the answer and the first number you can guess the variables. 17+x=20 x= 3. Andrew

20. Order of operation. i learned that you have to do the algebraic expression in the correct order of operation in order to get the right answer. Example:34-b+(9+8)=49.
megan.

21. I learned that PEMDAS always go in order ex; 3*4(9+11)=32 is the real answer
