App Smashing the Colonies
App Smashing by definition is a great way to get students motivated to work and learn. Throughout the year, students have done various projects and work that involved learning one app or another. By the end of the year, we have been introduced to multiple creation apps for a variety of ways to strut our stuff. Now students are given the choice of what they want to create to make an iMovie video to demonstrate their learning of the 13 Colonies. App smashing is taking various apps and using those apps together to create a finished project that shows all the work from the different apps, in this case an iMovie video. Some of our favorite were DrawingPad, iMovie, ExplainEverything, Tellagami, PicCollage, and TimelineBuilder. Here are a couple of examples for your viewing pleasure.

Student Created End of Year Review Planning
I came across a website where teachers can make an end of year review for their class that pairs You Tube videos with created multiple choice questions. As I was about to start testing this out I decided to allow the children to become the experts and 'take over' the design.
Step 1: What are our topics?
Step 2: Who does what job?
Maybe not quite independently, the students needed the talking stick to know who could talk but the assignments are done and the work is progressing.

Squid Disection
Mr Musselman visited with us once again to further enhance our understanding of animal classification. This time we worked in small groups to disect and investigate an underwater sea creature, the squid. Why don't you come take a look at what we have learned.
